Aidan Smith And His Indulgent Friends - Phone Me If You're Bored

Album review by scott@thesoundofconfusion.com

Manchester's shining light is back! Arguably one of the finest songwriters of the last ten years is once again delivering and maintaining his roots with 'Phone Me If You're Bored'. It's his first release in over five years and hints a new freshness and approach to his songwriting. Aidan Smith is a guy who has been around the block a few times, keeping Greater Manchester a firm inspiration and not forgetting early four-track release on Twisted Nerve and later album releases on Humble Soul and Analogue Catalogue, which gave Aidan a cult following in Manchester and beyond.

I get the impression writing music comes naturally to Aidan and combined with his lo-fi approach and lazy observational skills, provide a fine pot of tea. 'Be The Parade' is a lovely waltzing tune, with catchy melodies and references to hanging around in Castlefield, while 'Cinema Complex' pays tribute to Star Wars and taking his girl to the cinema. Now with his Indulgent Friends, this could be his 'Wowee Zowee'.
