We make it something like thirty years since They Might Be Giants first got together. They've released many records, many very good ones, yet still most people only know them for that song about the birdhouse and the one about Constantinople, or maybe for that TV theme. Their regular albums and singles? Well, they're the reserve of long-time fans and those who like their guitar-pop. If you're in the former category then it's well worth buying a couple of albums and finding out what else they can do. You could start with 'You're On Fire' from current album 'Nanobots'.
Yes, they're not always entirely serious, that's why God gave us Thom Yorke and those kinds of people, but neither are they some kind of novelty act. They're makers of quality guitar-pop that's barbed enough to stick in your brain and you'll welcome having it there. 'You're On Fire' is more catchy tunage with an odd video featuring talking mincemeat, dancing veg and eggs and a woman whose idea of cooking seems to be just setting fire to food. The video is a fun watch, but the song is more important and that's even better. These guys are in no mid-life crisis, they're still making hugely entertaining songs that can happily grace the record collection of even the more discerning music fan.
