Charlie Boyer and The Voyeurs - Clarietta

Album review by tom@thesoundofconfusion.co.uk

If a band is signed to Heavenly Recordings, they're almost always worth listening to. Charlie Boyer and The Voyeurs were signed to the label in 2012 when spotted supporting TOY. After the release of a few promising singles, their début album 'Clarietta' is one of the best albums of the year. The London-based five-piece have a raw sound which is reminiscent of '60s garage-psychedelia, yet feels undeniably modern.

You could call it primitive, but it's intelligently primitive; stripped back in all the right places to create something brilliantly refreshing. From the up-tempo pound of 'You Haven’t Got A Chance' to the sexiness of 'Be Glamorous', each song brings in a new perspective of the album. The final track, 'The Central Tonne' leaves you all-round impressed. I guarantee you'll be in love with Charlie's voice by the end of the second track.

The album leaves a lot of room for development, and despite releasing 'Clarietta' in May, the band are already back in the studio. Having had the pleasure of seeing one of their new songs played live, this is a band to keep your eye on, and if they’re playing in your town, their live sound is not one to miss.
