Trapdoor Social - First Light

Single review by kev@thesoundofconfusion.co.uk

As we learnt previously, Los Angeles duo Trapdoor Social are socially and environmentally responsible, to the point that such themes influence their songwriting. As expressed in probably more than one previous post, animated videos are way beyond the point of overkill and I'd rather saw off my own arms than watch some more twee characters acting out some imagined scenario. For their new single 'First Light', Trapdoor Social have made an animated video. Time for the saw? No way.

This is far more hard hitting stuff, depicting the horrors of war as bullets fly, planes pass overhead and people get killed. They're not being cutsie indie hipsters with this one. This has a message. The song is a corker too. A powerful alt-rock track that sounds about ten times bigger than a band of their size should be making. The lyrics are well thought out, it deals with emotions and the harsh side of life. If you're just after a good song without the burden of such heaviness then this fits the bill too. Very good stuff all round.
