Keebo - Native American

Single review by kev@thesoundofconfusion.co.uk

Fluorescent purple glitter tape, anyone? Well you'll have to be quick as they've only made 100 of them, but the download option is unlimited and we'd recommend getting hold of these two songs one way or another. If you're new to Keebo then we can tell you that they're five girls from London who make indiepop-type music but with their own twist. There are a million indiepop bands out there but it's difficult to come up with a good comparison for these songs, unless we just pick a female vocalist who sounds similar. Musically they've managed to develop their own sound, so hats off to them for that. A fine sound it is too.

Taking the lead here is 'Native American' which has a funky bassline, lo-fi guitars, jangly percussion and is incredibly shimmery. The overlaid vocals add a weird dreamy effect and nothing seems to sound quite as it should, but that's a good thing and is certainly deliberate. It's part dreampop and part head-spinning guitar-pop, but it's great fun. They prove themselves with 'Follow', ensuring us that they didn't just get lucky with one song. The unusual vocal effects again make you feel slightly tipsy somehow, and the guitar line is taken straight from the recent spat of DIY bands with "Beach" somewhere in their name. Two unsettling yet quite lovely tunes.
