Diamonds For Eyes - No Lament For True Lovers

Single review by kev@thesoundofconfusion.co.uk

Based around the core couple (who are an actual couple) of Joshua and Kristen Putney, Diamonds For Eyes began life in 2010 and seem to have a bit of a revolving door policy when it comes to members, as they list a further five current musicians and several previous members on their Facebook page, so we're led to believe that this is a band who use a relaxed approach like this to enhance their music, giving freedom to both the musicians and maybe even the direction of the project in general. They released their second album 'Catacomb Fires' late last year and have unveiled the video to new single 'No lament For True Lovers'.

You'd be entitled to think "not another one..." if we mentioned that they're an alt-rock band with a slight country and folk influence. Yeah, there are a lot of these around. What makes this single worth us covering is their apparent disregard for trying to sound like any of the other bands peddling similar material right now. Sure there are influences; the guitar is reminiscent of Neil Young at times and the music, while individual, hardy rips up the rule book. The deep, warm voice adds real substance to what is a very well made song, and allowing the dual guitars to roam, seemingly as they please, in and out of the song makes for a much less rigid track than many rock bands. Plus we'll give them extra marks for not smothering the song in harmonies like everyone else is doing.
