Five For Free #181

Hook & The Twin - That Was A Day

According to the info we have, Hook & The Twin formed back in 2008 but are only now about to release their debut album. So, unless they're hiding something from us then this record (out on June 24th) has been a while in the making. But we can't have any complaints about that if it's got songs as good as splendid indie/electro track 'That Was A Day' on it.

New Metro - Ugly

Earlier this year we featured a track from New Metro's last album 'Impromptus'. That song was called 'Bones' and was quite understated yet stately with it. This month Ben Foster's group have another album, 'Corolla', available, and if you want a sample then here's the scuzzy acoustic track 'Ugly' which has been made available for free.

The Koo Koos - Love and Pain

Birds Will Sing For You is becoming one of the best sources of new Swedish music out there. We're featuring their releases on a weekly basis at the moment. This is the title-track from new album 'Love and Pain' by The Koo Koos and is more impressive electro-pop from a country that seems to do alternative popular music better than most at the moment. 'Love & Pain' gets its UK release later this week.

Marie Lalá  - Without You

What were we just saying about Birds Will Sing For You? Also on their roster is Marie Lalá who releases her debut album 'Surrender My Soul' today. 'Without You' is the kind of timeless indiepop that's pretty much irresistible to anyone who's a fan of the genre. Sweet, catchy, full of melody and an instant hit, we can thank them for another cracking free tune here.

Kazyak - Pieces Of My Map

Also out this week is the new album from Minneapolis musician Kazyak. 'See The Forest, See The Trees' features free download 'Pieces Of My Map' and is a gorgeous hybrid of Americana, baroque-pop, indie and more. It apparently marks a shift away from Kazak's previous sound and on to something more mature. It's a move that we definitely approve of.
