Coastal Cities - Nothing Ever Changes

Single review by kev@thesoundofconfusion.co.uk

Another instance of a band picking the wrong lead track? Just a few days ago we brought you the video of the very good new single by Coastal Cities. It may be that 'Entropic' is more distinctive and that's why it was given preference over 'Nothing Ever Changes'. It is, admittedly, difficult to knock it as a single and it should do reasonably well for the band, but after they unveiled the song that will be accompanying it on the release we have to say that, although perhaps less distinctive, 'Nothing Ever Changes' is probably the better of the two.

It is a more simple idea; interesting start, fairly repetitive verses and not much in the way of a chorus, but, purely and simply it's a more rewarding song. Quite what you put this down to is difficult to pinpoint, but we're hedging our bets that it's as easy as just having a better melody. Whether you agree or not, there can be little denying that fans of the band aren't being sold short at all on this one; you won't waste your money on a song you'll play and one that you'll forget, you're getting your money's worth, and for that Coastal Cities should be applauded.
