Are Swedish artists Lust For Youth turning all mainstream? That's perhaps too strong a word, but compared to the lo-fi electronic drones they became known for, new single 'Chasing The Light' is practically like something off 'Saturday Night Fever'. Maybe they're catching the synth-pop bug. Long-time fans shouldn't worry though, if this is their idea of mainstream (and we should point out those were our words, not theirs) then it's still in a different musical dimension to regular pop music. Recent releases had hinted that they may be about to begin embracing actual tunes.
'Chasing The Light' is an actual tune, albeit a very cold, industrial and primitive electro song that sounds like a Gary Numan demo circa 1978. The vocals are distant, monotone shouting and the keyboards and synths sound like they were bough from a charity shop and recorded in a bathroom, such is the sharp and harsh sound. You don't get that from fuzzy studio walls. So it sounds antiquated, it sounds like a work in progress and the vocals have about as much passion as a naked picture of John McCririck. That said, it's a cracking tune though.
