Scrapomatic - Rat Trap

Single review by KevW

Do you like your rock 'n' roll to be of the garage variety? Not lo-fi and punky, but bluesy and raw like The Sonics or The Jim Jones Revue? Well if so then you're probably already aware of the work of Minnesota duo (will occasional guests) Scrapomatic. Not familiar with them? Well if those kind of sounds are up your street then you might like to get acquainted. There's plenty to delve in to, they've been making music together for a decade, but new single 'Rat Trap' from recent album 'I'm A Stranger (And I Love The Night)' is as good a place to start as any.

Those raw guitars and bass grooves kick in right from the start, backed by the kind of vocals that will probably remove your tonsils for you. It's primitive and it's something of a powerful rock force. This kind of thing is quite formulaic by its very nature, so you know what you're getting, but in these experienced hands you know it's going to be worth every penny. The amazingly freaky, psychedelic and just plain bonkers animated video that they've made for it is also not to be missed, although it does make you question whether or not some people are quite right in the head.
