Rat & Co - Vision/Seawind

Single review by KevW

Australian group Rat & Co release a pair of instrumentals for their new double A-side single, both fairly ambient and aiming to create a mood instead of going for big pop hooks. This quartet make self-styled "homemade ambient beats" in their base in Melbourne, but there's a little more to them than that. Anyone can knock together a few ambient beats and upload them to the internet, although chances are we'll pass them by.

Second track 'Seawind', is a decent tune, even if it is kind of getting close to generic ambient beats. The other song here is the one that nailed it. 'Vision' is also instrumental, aside from some ghostly "oohs", yet they turn it in to something far more interesting by giving it a boost by means of some bigger beats and guitar that makes the track feel like a slowed down math-rock tune, something that gives them a touch more individuality and is the perfect gift for anyone looking for some sounds to chill to this Christmas.
