Nada Surf - Jules And Jim

Single review by KevW

Having recently marked two decades in the business of writing lovably melodic guitar tunes by releasing their seventh studio album 'The Stars Are Indifferent To Astronomy' back in January, US indie legends Nada Surf are wrapping up a successful year with a new single and a tour including dates in Europe (well, Germany mainly) and the US. From their latest album is 'Jules And Jim' (which is also the name of a 1950s French novel, my literary knowledge is insufficient to decide whether there's a definite connection between that and this particular song) which comes with a French referencing video, suggesting a link might just be possible.

The slightly psychedelic and colourful film is an animation involving puppets, angels, a dancing horse and is generally a pretty surreal affair, albeit one that might make sense to those who've read the book. The music? Well this is Nada Surf and if you're familiar with their work then you'll know that this is pure guitar-pop heaven. Beautifully melodic and with a great uplifting guitar solo. Listen to it, watch the video, go and see them live, and if you like even grab a copy of the book. If it's good enough to inspire them then it can't be a bad read, can it?
