Out This Week - 8th October 2012

Generationals - Lucky Numbers

It's still slightly baffling that New Orleans duo Generationals are barely known in the UK (although one of their songs did appear on a TV ad earlier this year) because they're one of the finest alternative/electro/indie/pop groups going. With an excellent debut album and a string of equally impressive EPs out, you'd hope for more coverage. Oh well, here's new single 'Lucky Numbers'. It's ace.

Lord Huron - The Stranger

Californians Lord Huron continue their steady rise with the release of their first EP this week. It's called 'Time To Run' and will precede their debut album 'Lonesome Dreams' which will be with us early next year. From the new EP is the cosmic Americana of 'The Stranger' which takes the "canoeing music" of Fleet Foxes and and gives is a slightly psychedelic twist.

Dog Is Dead - Glockenspiel Song

It's taken what seems like an age for Nottingham's Dog Is Dead to get around to putting out debut album 'All Out Favourite Stories', but this is often the case when signing to a major label. We're sure Atlantic made every inch of the record exactly as they wanted it before we were allowed to hear it. Hopefully little of the band's epic indiepop sound was compromised, and single 'Glockenspiel Song' certainly sounds top drawer.

Woodsman - All Tangled Up

Denver trio Woodsman decided that a move to Brooklyn would be an ideal platform for launching some motorik experimental loveliness and their mission continues with the release of 'All Tangled Up', some five minutes of swirling atmospherics, psychedelia and krautrock that takes it's cue from Spectrum, Neu!, Wooden Shjips and other sonic explorers.

OBLIGATORY RECORD OF THE WEEK

Evans The Death - Catch Your Cold

One of the biggest word-of-mouth buzz bands of the year wrap up the campaign for their eponymous debut album with a new single. Londoners Evans The Death have been highly praised by critics and public alike, and this third and final cut from their LP shows exactly why. 'Catch Your Cold' doesn't really rip up the rule book, but this kind of contagious, rollicking, fuzzy indiepop is pretty difficult to ignore when it's done as well as this. The anticipation for new material will be high and you can expect their album to be popping up in a few of those end of year lists that are on the horizon.
