Dirty Projectors - Gun Has No Trigger

The ever evolving New York clan Dirty Projectors are back with new album 'Swing Lo Magellan' next week, the follow up to breakthrough success 'Bitte Orca'. New single 'Gun Has No Trigger' has been available digitally for a couple of weeks but is out physically this week. It's a great piece of psychedelic pop that suggests the new album could keep the plaudits coming in.

Beak> - Yatton

Portishead man Geoff Barrow has put out some sterling records on his Invada label, not least those by his other band Beak>. Their self-titled new album is out today and is more experimental krautrock inspired, menacing soundscapes. 'Yatton' is taken from the album and sounds as though it could have been created in Berlin in 1973. Which is no bad thing at all.

Harry Oakwood (Millionaire) - Scared Crow

Harry Oakwood (Millionaire) are a London-based chamber folk group whose debut EP has already received some great reviews (including from comedian/composer Tim Minchin) and is officially released in the UK today. Taken from it is 'Scared Crow' which begins steadily and subtly before swerving into a terrific sing-along ending complete with brass backing.

Breton - Jostle

Experimental art collective Breton release a new single featuring a track from their highly acclaimed album 'Other People's Problems' this week. Also on the double A-side download is new track 'Foam', but the star of the show is the mashed up rave/rock/indie album highlight 'Jostle' which jovially skips through boundaries, building towards a manic ending.

OBLIGATORY RECORD OF THE WEEK

The Raveonettes - Observations

Everyone's favourite Danish duo are back AGAIN. Following recent EP 'Into The Night,' The Raveonettes have announced details of new album 'Observator' which will be out at the beginning of September. The album sees them once again teaming up with legendary producer Richard Gottherer. The first offering from the sessions is new single 'Observations', a song that tones down the fuzz just a touch, instead creating a dark and brooding atmosphere. Seeming fairly down-tempo and routine on first listen, it doesn't take many plays to remind us that it's the quiet ones you've got to look out for. Wonderfully spooky stuff.
